Feeling Out of the Action!

Reformation 500 Treasure Hunt in Boston

Gah! I don’t know whether to scream, cry, or just smile. Being out of the action is insanely frustrating! :) Anybody else feeling this way?

Sigh…. I’m OK. God has us where we are for a reason. After all, we wouldn’t be able to participate in tomorrow’s rally if we were in Boston!

God is good. But I must…. stop….. wanting…… to be……. someplace……. else…..

They come when I whistle now, and Violet is gaining weight! I think she and Sully are very happy here.

Fashion Week, Day 7 (or 8?)

amandabeth1

I know, I know. I’m a whole day late with this post, but at least I have a good reason! Saturdays are always our house cleaning days, plus Angie fell sick, and I had a wedding to play piano for. By the time I put on my dress and loaded the car with my instrument, there was no time to think of a fashion post.

But anyway, the wedding went very well indeed – the ceremony was so sweet! I didn’t ruin it, so that’s a good thing. :-) And all the duets and music pieces we/I did were pretty much seamless (yay! thank you Lord!)

Here’s what I wore for the occasion:

~a picture Nate quickly snapped for me when we came home

What I’m wearing:

Dress: my toille dress! Some of you may recognize it from the dress I wore last week, and it is the same pattern – just different fabric. I was originally thinking of wearing more fancy attire, but actually most of the guests at the wedding arrived dressed on the casual side, so I fit right in.

Other: By the time Nate took this picture I was tired, and ready to plop on the couch and watch National Treasure 2 with him, so I had already taken off my sandels and most of my jewelry. Though you can’t see them, I did wear the necklace from Day 2 of the fashion week, and a silver bracelet band with my name on it.

My whole family couldn’t go to the wedding with me, so Walter acted as my escort, and was looking very handsome indeed! I love his cravat.

He also acted as soundman, sort of at the last minute.

And here’s a shot of the wedding party;

Now, don’t you think this is a good excuse for not being able to post yesterday? :-)

Have a great Sunday!

Fashion Week, Day 6

friday2 friday1

I love this outfit! It’s new, it’s totally my style, it’s comfortable and very summery.

friday3

What I’m wearing:

Skirt: no label. I found this beauty at a consignment shop next to the dressmakers’, and bought it for 8$! I love the feel and flow of this skirt. Once again, its original size is too large for me, but a few discreet safety pins fix that problem. :-)

Shirt: black sports tee from Walmart – 3$. (isn’t it awesome when you find sales like that?)

Accessories/Jewelry: black cord necklace with key charm, made by me. I’m also wearing another one of my beloved headscarves, done in a fashion I like to call the “Marianne Dashwood style”. If you’re familiar with the new mini series Sense and Sensibility from Masterpiece Theater, you’ll know what I’m talking about!

Sunglasses: See day 1. :-)

No shoes – bare feet are better! Seriously, if our land wasn’t covered in prickers and prickly pear, I would go outside barefoot all the time!

Ta, ta!

Fashion Week, Day 5: Something Different

Fiddler on the Roof, anyone?

fiddlerontheroofgirl

As you can see, I decided to do something different with today’s fashion post. :-) I’m taking a short break from picturing my daily stylish outfits, and instead trying out some fashion from the past.

A few weeks ago we had a movie night with our friends and enjoyed my favorite musical Fiddler on the Roof together. I love dressing up in period costumes, and at the last minute, put together this outfit! It’s always fun to ‘get into’ things like that. :-)

What I’m wearing:

Skirt: the very first skirt I sewed. I never wear it normally, but it’s a great piece for costumes!

Blouse: white long sleeved blouse, no label.

Hairscarf: Like I said, I just threw this outfit together really quickly, so I think this is just a piece of scrap fabric. It works though!

I just love that movie! Great music. Great fiddling too. Anybody else a fan?

From and For the Guys…

To our male readership:

Nate and I apologize for this slew of “feminine fashion” posts all week. It’s like our blog has been hijacked, temporarily stripped of everything manly and virile. (No, the airsoft picture doesn’t count). But we’re enduring it as best we can, and are sneaking in this post to encourage you to hang with us till the end of the week!

In other news…

Nate and Walter provide their amazing manly perspectives on fashion…

me-and-nate

In this photo, you’ll observe Nate wearing an extremely well coordinated get-up, consisting of a t-shirt and a pair of shorts. Walter on the other hand, has opted to go for the shorts and t-shirt look. (There’s a subtle difference). His hand-me-down “Mustang” shirt provides a perfect amount of color, and flatters his body build.

“We’ll just be walking down the street, or digging a ditch,” Nate and Walter remark. “And people will just randomly ask us, ‘How do you do it? Your fashion is impeccable!’. Guess it’s a gift or something… All we do is reach in our drawers, and put on the first pieces of clothing that we pull out!

Fashion Week, Day 4

~Turquoise and brown~

now2

I love how beautifully these colors go together! I added a touch of white to brighten it up just a little.

now3

What I’m wearing:

Shirt: long sleeve/3/4-length sleeve shirt from thrift store (3$) with “Bohemiam” beading and brown ribbon to decorate the neckline. I wear a brown tank underneath for modesty. Isn’t it great you can find pieces at a thrift store? I’ve been to every consignment shop in town. :-)

Skirt: hand-me-down brown, knit skirt with pocket in front (think hoody). This skirt was an XXL when it was given to me, but I altered it here and there, added some length to the bottom with the extra fabric, and now it fits great! It’s the perfect, casual pencil skirt.

Shoes: brown flip-flops by Eddie Bauer. (YAY! flip-flops!)

Jewelry: homemade hemp bracelet, to match with the beading on my shirt. It didn’t show up in the picture as much as I wanted to, but I’m also wearing a white, sparkly headscarf. It’s got to be my favorite out of a collection of many headscarves – I wear it a lot. :-)

Well I’m off to a music practice this afternoon for a wedding, then in the evening we’re going to homegroup. What’s everyone else up to?

God bless!

Airsoft Time!

The boys recently bought their own airsoft pistols!

Along with other airsoft weaponry a friend was kind enough to share with us, we were able to have an airsoft battle here at Providence Glen!

It had to have been the hottest day we’ve had yet this year, but still we charged on and had an awesome time!

P.S. I battled too, but you don’t see me because I was taking all the pictures! :-) Somebody’s got to do these things!

Fashion Week, Day 3

~Outfit #3 for the fashion week!

fashionday31 fashionday32

What I’m wearing:

Skirt: Pretty much my favorite skirt ever! Angie bought this for me at a thrift store for 8$. It’s actually quite a few sizes too big for me, but a few safety pins fix that easily. :-) I love the fullness of it, how it feels when the wind swishes it against me as I walk along It’s also very comfy!

Shirt: white Bella t-shirt designed by ModesTeen (a ministry now discontinued) I won in a modest fashion contest (see pictures here). Scripture reference on back, Psalm 139:14.

Hat: My newsboy cap from Khol’s. I think it was on sale for 15 dollars. Generally I have trouble finding hats that look good on me, but this newsboy one works fine. When I was younger, I used to call them Rebecca St. James caps!

Shoes: I love my green sneakers! They’re great for walking in, and add a nice touch of my fun and somewhat random style.

Jewelry: Live Pure necklace from Generations of Virtue. My dad bought this for me when I was 13. On the back it reads physically, spiritually, mentally.I’m also wearing handmade bracelets on my right wrist, and of course my ever present ankletes. :-)

I hope everyone has a great day! We’re going to the movies tonight with friends (YAY!). Be assured that I’ll be wearing my very fashionable outfit for the occasion!

-Kasie

P.S. Thanks Esther, for editing the photos for me!

Fashion Week, Day 2

amandabeth1

I almost never wear jeans in the summertime (it’s just too hot!), but it was relatively cool this morning, and I wanted to fit it into the fashion week somehow, so…

day21

~my favorite jeans outfit~

day22

Add some matching jewelry, wear your favorite sneakers, and you’re good to go!

day23

“You’re never fully dressed without a smile”. :-)

What I’m wearing:

Jeans. How’s that for stating the obvious? :-) I saw these up at Walmart for 7 bucks! and needless to say, snatched them up. How often is it that you find a pair of jeans that fit you and are on sale for a price like that?

Tops: white (almost) sheer button-down blouse from Khol’s, layered with a black knit tank top (Walmart I believe – can you tell I like that store?).

shoesShoes: My aunt found these cute sneakers for me at – you guessed it – Walmart, for three dollars, and I love them to bits! They’re simple, but add a particular flare to whatever I’m wearing. I like to add a little hint of “funkiness” to my outfits (as you’ll in tomorrow’s post)

Headscarf. I don’t remember where I found this, but I wear it a lot! I use a lot of headscarves, sashes and decorative bands to touch up my wardrobe.

Jewelry: I especially like to wear a lot of jewelry with this outfit – it adds the right touch of femininity to it! I’m wearing a couple of necklaces, two ribbons on my left wrist and a silver/red bracelet on my right wrist. I love how the color scheme of the jewelry and headscarf tie in together!
