The Difference Between a Hair Band and a Hair Thing

December 16th, 2007

It was on a Friday afternoon…

I was sitting on the couch with Julia, preparing to braid her hair. (a small delight I have been enjoying doing for my nieces of late) I love braiding, and who can refuse the opportunity to practice and request of a cute four-year-old? :-) So a braid it was, but when I came to the end and asked her for a ‘hair band,’ she replied with a sigh,

“It’s not a hair band, it’s a hair thing. You always call it that.” she shook her head sadly at my ignorance.

“Oh, so it’s not a hair band?”

“Nope – it isn’t!”

“It’s a hair thing?

“Yes.”

Slightly amused at her unusual reasoning, I asked her “So Julia, what is the difference between a hair band and a hair thing?”

“Well,” she cocked her head to one side in a meticulous manner, “This is a hair thing, but some of the other ones upstairs that Katrina has, those are hair bands!”

“Really?”

“Yep! That’s the way it is!”

Since all was now cleared up concerning the controversy over hair bands and things, nothing remained but for me to secure Julia’s braid with a hair thing, and send her off to get washed up for supper.

*sigh* What are little kids for but to make us smile?

Lol. Beautiful. Sometimes I don’t know if I would smile at all if it wasn’t for the little people. Thank God for munchkins.
