Signs of Spring

March 15th, 2008

As a Northerner I’m used to winter weather lingering on well into March. In New York, Spring doesn’t really come until mid April! But here in Virginia, it is another matter altogether: spring arrives right on time. Imagine that! :-)

This week especially has been filled with warm, sunny days. Yesterday’s temperatures reached 70 degrees! It’s on days like this that you’ll most likely find me (and possibly the entire family!) enjoying the outdoors. Just today I was strolling about the lawn, and to my delight I spotted Karlyn’s crocuses in full bloom!

I love crocuses – they’re a sure sign that Spring is here for good!

My nieces and nephews also pointed out to me the daffodils…

…and the rose buds beginning to bud!

Splendid, is it not? I was even able to wear my flip-flops a little, and of course, that made my day! Spring is sublime.

Shall we not have one final shot of the crocuses that I love so much?

There we are!

So, how’s the weather like in the homes of all our dear readers? Is Spring as pleasant as it is here in Virginia?

God bless!

Ah! Spring is coming! Here we just got a sprinkling of snow… and there have only been a handful of days above 60. We are still waiting for spring!

The first crocus photo is my favorite. Well done, Kasie!

Mmmm, so beautiful. *Sigh* I don’t know why, it makes me wistful. Funny how things that make one happy can make one sad at the same time. At least that’s how it works for me. The crocuses are just starting to poke through up here, and the daffodils as well. No blooms yet though. I’m easing back into sandles now, and out of tailcoat and hat.

    Tapping at the window
    Touch your hair
So swift and bright, strange figures of light
    Float in air…”

Oh brother Esther. I always forget! I probably won’t have a chance during these next few weeks (I’ll be busy sewing a dress on time for a certain ball), but I’ll see what I can do. Thanks for the reminder! And for being patient!

Well, snow is exactly what we’ve been without this Winter Sir Valiant, much to my dismay. :-) So enjoy it while you can – Spring will come soon!

I know what you mean Mr. Darcy. Sometimes it is the same with me. Encourage those brave little flowers for me! You’ll soon be able to wear your sandals at all times, and I my flip-flops!

Hehe, well Miller boys, it’s hard not to! Allow me just a little please? I can’t help but mentioning that today is a ‘mere fifty something degrees and sunny, nothing worth noticing of course.’ :-)

Kasie, We have no snow now! The little we got (“dusting”) was gone by the time we got home from church. the grass is starting to turn green! and we have our tomato plants started! I cannot wait!

Capital! Capital indeed Sir Valiant! Bravo for the heat mizer! Ah, tomato plants. I would be starting a garden by now, but I think that will have to wait until next Spring when we have our own soil in which to plant it! I’d love to create a sort of Secret Garden about the edges of our new house; a few stepping stones, lots of bushes and flowers, you know.

Random question: isn’t sublime such a cool word? (I’m in a sublime mood at the moment)

Great pictures Kasie!! It’s snowing here in Colorado and it’s not supposed to stop for a few days… I cannot wait for spring!

ps – Thanks for the bookmark! It passed the picked-up-by-Katelyn-and-shaken-upside-down test! :)

I love those pictures! We don’t have anything outside yet, but thanks to our church’s flower sale and the local grocery store, our house is full of hyacinth, crocuses, tulips and oxalis! The house smells so good!

As to the weather here… about thirty degrees and sunny, with frost on the ground. There is enough snow about a half hour away for the rest of the family to go skiing. Still no buds on the plants and the grass is still brown, but summer lasted so long last year that I won’t complain about it’s seemingly slow return =)

Hey Joy! Glad you liked the bookmark. Did you figure out where to put it on the page? I should think you guys would welcome the snow – especially Kenny. :-) Oh, and that’s a really cute pic of you and Katelyn! (your avatar)

That’s nice you can at least enjoy some flowers Elizabeth. I love the ones that have a neat fragrance! BTW, I’m really looking forward to seeing you and your family this week!

Great pictures Kasie! It is a pleasure to behold the flora as it appears below the Mason-Dixon line.

Ah yes! Too bad Spring hasn’t arrived yet where you are. Well, there’s only one thing to be done about it; you and your family must visit us, and breathe deeply of the warm Spring air, and all lovely southern weather!

We’ve just had our first visitors since we moved to the South – what a delightful time we had with Elizabeth D. and her mother! ‘Twas a short visit to be sure, but it was lovely. I cannot wait to see more friends from N.Y. and show y’all our home in TN! When the house comes that is…
