Natural Bridge

Natural Bridge really rocks! :-D

The other day we visited one of Virginia’s landmarks, a place we had wanted to see before we move to Tennessee. “Back in the day”, Natural Bridge brought crowds of tourists from all across the country to gaze upon the awe-inspiring arch. I don’t believe it is as popular now, but it is still worth visiting! Thomas Jefferson himself liked it so much, that he actually bought the bridge and the surrounding 157 acres from King George. And the cool thing is, he bought it for the equivalent of $2.40! Don’t you wish land was that cheap these days? Right now the park is going for 34 million.

But forgive me I am beginning to stray.

The place was practically deserted, and very peaceful, and we had a nice day trip out of it. We kept joking and saying things like “Boy, there are so much people here… is this busy or what?” :-D

And of course we took pictures! Walter was the photographer that day, so I can’t take credit for these.

Excellent pictures. My first good view of the ringlet hair style in broad daylight, by the by, and it looks sweet, just like medusa. Hiss! Oh but the Tolkien poem — you want sublime, now that is sublimity in its most outstanding apex. The same bit that I put at the end of our LOTR movie no less! How groovy do you get? Huh?

P.S. Nate is indeed beginning to tower. Watch out Walter. What have I always said……

Eh, Nate still has a ways to go yet!

I had a brief moment of “wow, Walter is really thinking SMART!” that day….

I happened to bring the tripod along, and when we went into the caverns, I screwed it into the camera, and never took it off. The shutter speed was set to ridiculously slow, and I was able to capture some fairly good images.

I would have never been able to hold the camera still enough without the tripod…..

    I don’t even know where to begin…

    1. Angie’s hair is really cute with the spirals
    2. Tripods are great! It was nice to see everybody in the photo
    3. Nate is taller than Angie?!? Wow! He’s really getting tall.
    4. The photos are really good.
    5. That looks like a marvelous place to visit.
    6. Textbook stalactites and stalagmites
    7. I’m glad you all had a good time.
    8. Kasie’s hair is growing back fast.

Whoa Aunt Frances – that sure is a lot to say in one comment! I like your way of organizing your thoughts. Nice. :-) And yes, Nate is taller than Angie, and has been since before we left N.Y.! He towers over me something fierce now, it’s scary. And you’re right, my hair is growing back fast – I’m so happy! I estimate that it’s grown about an inch and a half since I cut it. It’s still ridiculously thick though…I fear there’s nothing I can do to change that.

Oh, and a cute thing our tour guide said concerning the difference between stalagmites and stalactites; ‘Stalactites hold on tight to the ceiling, while stalagmites might reach it.’ Thought that was cute!
