Yippee! And the hunt is on!
Oh, how fun! I was hoping for something like this…I haven’t researched much of it yet, but it promises to be fascinating!!
Oh, this is so neat! I found all sorts of stuff, including….etc., etc., etc. (You didn’t really think I would give it away! lol) This is fun! Thank you for the research time, Willis!
This is great fun! My sleuthing skills are sharpening up again. Except for reading up on some research, I think I’m all caught up! Thanks guys!
Indeed – the first leg has begun. Good job ladies! (You’re making short work of this…)
To everyone:
Leave a comment when you “get in here”, and let us know how you’re doing!
I saw the picture in this post…and immediately txt’d it.
Already having fun! Now for some research…
@Stardust: LOL!!! Did it take you very long to find the password? I had a little trouble finding it, even though it was obvious once I did find it. 20/20 hindsight, huh?
@Walter:
Thank you! It looks like you guys put a lot of work into this. I love old parchments and coded messages! lol I can’t wait to go back and read more of my research links today.
@Rachel: No, not that long. I saw the post earlier in the day yesterday, but didn’t have time to try to solve it really, plugged in a few things with no luck. But last night once I played with the Handy picture it didnt take too long.
I think I’m caght up, waiting for the next clue.
Ditto, Rachel!!!
It’s amazing how much sleuthing skills are like riding a bike.
Looking forward to the next clue!
Regards,
C.
Okay…I’m in. Let’s see…Rachel should have received two emails from me…I couldn’t remember for a minute or two what to do …but then I did…and then I used my somewhat amazing repertoire of foreign language skills…which led me to here. Okay, so I don’t have a huge repertoire, but evidently enough…LOL! So, Rachel can tell you (once she checks her emails) how long it took me for the first part…it’s 6:41 pm PST now.
Now I have to find a magnifying glass!
Hey Willi – remember we got some old eyes here…lol!
Blessings -
Camille
Camille….’foreign language skills’? Do you mean ‘verdant’? Rofl!
Oh, dear. You want me to use my poor brain, that worked so hard just to get here, you want me to use that brain to convert between time zones?!
Well, let’s see…my first e-mail from you is ‘timestamped’ at 7:27 my time, which means 6:27 your time, and 8:27 Willi time…and the second e-mail, when you read the text file, is 7:31 my time…so it appears to have taken you a grand total of (approximately): 14 minutes (give or take an hour).
But math never was my strong subject! lol
Blessings all,
Rachel
14 minutes?!?!?! Oh man, I am slipping!!!!
Now, my dear friend, must we revert back to signing off in days gone by??
If you insist…..
Güle güle ~
Camille
Rofl, Camille!!! I think it took me longer than that…*guilty smile*
Oh, I’d love to! But oh, dear. Now I have to find my translation sites again…lol
Ah-hah!! Turkish! Okay, something for you…
Ka kite anoo!
Rachel
Is it possible to hijack a comment section?? I do not know my Maori friend…where is that spoken any way?…but it will be good to brush up on my language skills once again!!!
I am currently all sleuthed-up (thanks to you!)…though, the Willis’ must be gone somewhere this weekend.
Can I put in a veto for ‘more to follow soon’? If I never see/hear those words again, it will be okay by me…lol!!!
At least with this fun, I can pretend like I am researching my husband’s family *smile*…they are from somewhere in Tennessee!

You people are having too much fun….
Ah ha!!!! He is back!!!!!
…and, isn’t that the point?? FUN?!?!?
I was thinking of uploading a cool guy picture, but I think the ‘mysterious shadow man’ is more fun….maybe I’ll make a ‘mysterious shadow woman’ one *smile*.
…off to learn some hillbilly songs -
Camille
Yea!!! Ah the days of thinking, “I know I have this right — now why isn’t it taking my answer!!!!” ahh…good times…
@Mudbug: LOL! I know what you mean! Brings back memories…
(Good ones too!)
Camille…I thought everyone knew that Maori was spoken in New Zealand by the native people! Rofl (actually I had to look it up to be sure…
)
Walter…I don’t know about TOO much fun…you just had no idea what you guys were getting yourselves into, did you?
Camille and I promise to behave, right, Camille? PrzewaŻnie, przynajmniej. lol
Lots of good memories!
Oh, Camille! One of my favorite languages!! lol
Slán!
Rachel
Behave, behave…dees vord I doo knot unnerstan. I sink I have herd uv a bee hive, no? A place for dee vonderful bees to makea zee honey?

ROFLOL!!!!!!!! Wow, you got complicated! I had to use my research skills to get that one…do you know how hard it is to find a Blackfoot translator online?! lol I wonder how you pronounce that? It looks Middle Eastern to me, not Indian. Ah well, you learn something everyday!
Gwaheri,
Rachel
…and I was wondering if you wanted a big ‘ole smooch with your last sign off. I was thinking about asking you, but didn’t want to come off creepy…lol! However, my better judgment has prevailed again, so I mentioned it. So get a smooch from your Mom…and give her one from me!! *smile*
Now, I hope we don’t get kicked off this hunt for all our jabber! However, we add such interesting asides and a bit of humor, so I’m sure we’re okay.
Right, Walter, we are okay, right?
Hwyl, my dear rafiki!
Funny how “J.S.” writes in perfect Blackadder Itc. (Lol… just being funny.)
I feel very stupid. My first guess was “Nathanael Greene” but somehow every single time I came back frustrated with no other answer and tried it I must have spelled something wrong. Yeap. I feel right dumb.
Anyways, I think we all know who has solved Conan Doyle before Sherlock did at AGE EIGHT!!! (Me.)
So this should be fun, including that… thingy which some people migth have overlooked. (But I doubt not in this intelligent company, very much so!)
And Sherlock never said “Elementary, my dear Watson”, so I will.
“Elementary, my dear Wally.”
~Blaidd Dichellar
That was fun. I like your style. The whole story that I see written in front of me in jpg format, stained blackadder 36 pt. (And the whole thing slightly squeezed inwards on both sides so as to better fit the bottle, I imagine) is a marvelous tale of… well maybe I shouldn’t say everything… but I like what the story appears to be. (And the “typos” )
I have found everything so far (I think) ,can’t wait for whatevers next.
I say amen to that, Jack.
C’mon Walter! Give us some more! This is ahsum. yoo be jeenyus, wally, lyk ine styn! (That is MY secret code, lol.)
Im in oh ya! Ya i feel stupid too justin THE FIRST THING I TRIED AND FOUND WAS Nathanael Greene! I tried it and it didnt work so i went on with out bothering to try it different ways! Stupid stupid me!
I didn’t even do any research, I just saw “verdant” and thought “Nathaniel Greene” (But of course, as I found out, his first name is non-standard) Even so… I actually think that was my problem – but I even tried it every way with “ael” and couldn’t. I feel stupid too. Want to join my club Esther?
Sure will Justin! lol Any who uh ok so who wants to help me crack the code!?!?!?! lol Or at least teach me a few ways to do so because i have never done any secret code cracking ever in my life!
Hey Mrs. Ivey! Glad to see you are doing this, too! How are you and the baby doing?
Esther, if you give me your e-mail, I can help you with the code. (I will be gone most of the week, though).
but dont help me to much! i want to be able to crack it myself (for the most part)
check your e-mail =)
test
I am enjoying being back in a hunt!
Thanks for the help Elizabeth! from now on ima try too look up these code deciphering tools myself
<—– ace in my pocket…lol!
@Camille
Who is that [avatar]? (Or rather, who was that?)
Rumor has it…he is around Boston these days. I cannot divulge more information than that, as ‘you know who’ may be reading this…however, I assure you, all is well and he is fine.
Must sign off…my red JB phone is ringing….
Camille
Oh, I get it.
Love the hat and beard – nice touch.
Get it? Get what? Nice touch? I really have no idea what you are talking about, but I will pass on that you enjoy his hat and beard. It will lift him up.
He just hasn’t been the same since that nasty car accident, AND can you believe…he is still haggling with the insurance company?!?! Something trivial over they don’t pay for damages that occur when someone is trying to k…Oh, maybe I should say any more.
Okay – I’m off.
Camille…Oh, dear. (We always had our suspicions that you were the VF spy…Lol!!!) Something funny: I recognized him right off! P——. And now that you’ve blown our cover….! Tsk, tsk, tsk. I’m going to have to tell (unintelligible name) about this. *goes off shaking head sadly*
Signing allir!
Rachel
Oy!! Please don’t tell (mumble, mumble)! Oh no…do you remember what (mumble, mumble) made me do last time I gave TMI!!!
Oh, dear, oh my!! Perhaps our friend will vouch for me. Really, not too much is given away. Honest! No one knows anything…nothing…no thing!
*wandering away, mumbling to self, encrypting messages on a scrap of napkin that was used to catch the drool*
Camille
Camille and Rachel- you two have gone totally bonkers! ROFL Last time I saw you know who, he was under a tree on DOG street!!!
*sigh* All right. I suppose you deserve one more chance. After all, you are a very helpful operative… But our friend had better vouch for you! I won’t be blamed this time if *cough cough* sees this…
Oh, and you had better not be encrypting anything important on napkins! Remember the last time, when that waiter turned out to be working for you-know-who…?
*still shaking head*
Rachel
Linda: …alas, whilst you all were enjoying DOG street and trying to figure out where the quicksand was…due to mechanical difficulties, we were tying yellow ribbons ’round the old oak tree waiting for the hero of Moby Dick to show up!
Rachel: …oh, that dreaded waiter!!! I had forgotten…old age, my girl, old age…sometimes a friend, sometimes an enemy.
I do remember that mechanic, though! Oh, what an imposter he was!! No more encryption on air filters, that’s for sure!!
*sending virtual flowers to Rachel so she’ll quit shaking her head at me*
Camille
I promised myself I didn’t have time for this. *rolls eyes*
I found a picture of one of the folks mentioned in the letter. He bore a marked resemblance to EB!
Now…can anyone tell me how many children J.S. had?
18 according to Wikipedia
Camille- ROFLOL!!!! I love your ‘mixed metaphors’. And the air filters! You do manage to get into all sorts of scrapes…
I promise to stop shaking my head; and Thank You! for the beautiful virtual flowers…and the note….! : )
(NB: To anyone confused by our senseless chatter: it has absolutely nothing to do with the current hunt; simply a conglomeration of JT400 memories, inside jokes, and a lot of pure silliness.
Just didn’t want anyone thinking they had more to research…lol)
Blessings all,
Rachel
Oh, and Justin? …I finally figured out the meaning of your new name. Lol!! It only took me five days…
I guessed the language right off, but couldn’t make the translator come through. So much for my sleuthing skills! : )
Still laughing,
Rachel
Senseless chatter? No extra research? Maybe I’m a spy, sent here to throw in some confusion. Maybe I’m part of the plot! Maybe, just maybe, I am the mastermind!
Okay…what Rachel said is true. I’m not a spy. I’m not here to cause confusion. I’m not a masterm…well, I AM a mastermind, but this is not my handiwork, this time!
Blessings -
Camille
According to my info, it was 10 by each of 2 wives (the first died before he married the second!–not to be confused with the current issue in Texas!)
I’M FINALLY IN!
I haven’t had time to work on this until this morning…and I hope I’m not too late
Hi,
I feel totally dumb. I just got in today. The last three weeks have been crazy. We had company, then I left and now I have just gotten back from Texas. The crazy thing is that all along, I had the right answer, but was not using it right. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope to catch up soon.
Blessings,
Hannah
