Have you ever been in a position where you find yourself in need of a suitable response during conversation? On the search for clever, silly, or perhaps somewhat unusual replies, look no further. Jane Austen is your solution. Well-known for her witty novels, she has a wealth of superb utterances from which to draw. These are several appropriate remarks from the Jane Austen movies “Emma” and “Pride and Prejudice”, and “Sense and Sensibility for your express benefit. Peruse to your delight and prepare to both delight (and confuse :-) ) your fellow conversationalists.

Homeschooling Under Attack

Have you heard of the court ruling in California which practically banned homeschooling?

A brief background summery; one homeschooling family in California had lost a series of court cases. (I don’t know the particulars) The Court of Appeals, instead of deciding for this one family, ruled that no one can home school in California unless they are a certified teacher. As to the higher grades, a teacher must be certified in all high sp[chool subjects, next to impossible, to teach high school at home.
The implications of this is big. One of our most precious liberties is being attacked right before our eyes. We must take action.

Most importantly we must pray and ask God to protect our families a pour out His mercies on our nation.

Also we can sign the petition at Home School Legal Defense Association . HSLDA will be formally petitioning the California Supreme Court to "depublish" the court's opinion so that it can't be used in future cases.

Let your voice be heard.

[Walter's Thoughts] This is just another example of wacko judges stepping out of their jurisdiction, and creating horrible precedent (which now-a-days is treated like law).

I don’t consider myself an aggressive man, but there are a few things that I will fight to the death for. The right to homeschool my children according to the dictates of God’s Word is one of them. I know that Dad (being his military self) would literally die fighting before allowing the state to take away his kids.

You yourself might not go to that extreme – that’s between you and God. But what we all must recognize is that we are engaged in a great spiritual war that is manifesting itself in the physical. Biblical homeschooling is the greatest revival of our time, and Satan knows it. Biblical homeschooling is at heart a reforming tool, one that not only revives individuals and families, but ultimately changes the culture.

That is why the enemy hates homeschooling so much. And that is why we must defend it to the last.

So sign the petition!

Also, just because you’re a “young adult” (aka teenager) doesn’t mean you can’t sign it…

Adventures in Appomattox

As mentioned in one of my previous posts, our family is going to take a few days and visit a few of the historic sights in Virginia located nearby. Our first stop, as you know, was Lexington, and our second stop? Appomattox Courthouse; the very place where General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Grant, thus beginning the end of the Civil War.

You may be interested to know that the surrender didn’t actually take place inside a courthouse, but simply the home of a townsman, Mr. McLean. Appomattox Courthouse is the name of the entire village, and not just one building.

Just a little history trivia for you! At least, I thought it was neat. :-)

Last week we toured Lexington by ourselves, but this time we were joined by some of our friends from church. It was great getting to know their family more, and so together we had a lovely time! We spent the day walking from a historic house to a plaque, from gift shops to the county jail, and stopping at each to snap pictures and learn new things about Appomattox and the Civil War surrender. The Ranger who guided our group was very informative, and had many neat little stories to tell us. There is so much history in that little town! I loved it!

Also interesting to note, cameras are a useful tool in the art of fun, adventure, and oftentimes sillism. Have you noticed? You’ll see what I mean when viewing a few of the pictures we took!

Start Filming!

Christian Filmmakers 24-Hour Contest

The security elements for the contest are listed here. You must use three of these elements in your film:

1. Cheerios
2. Baseball
3. Mismatched socks
4. Guitar
5. Camera Technique: 720 degree camera pan
6. Dialog: “Stop these shenanigans!”
7. Dialog: “That better not be what I think it is.”

So what are you guys waiting for? Break out the cameras and camcorders, fire up Ulead or Vegas (or Movie Maker if you must), and start filming! Remember, your entry will be judged on how well your mini-movie (under 3 minutes) integrates the security elements.

We still haven’t decided if we’re going to film anything. It depends on how the day goes! :)
