Ready for the Ball

April 5th, 2008

Just a few pictures taken in haste to give you a glimpse of our (Angie’s and mine) costumes we made for a ‘Vintage Family Ball’ tonight.

That’s all for now folks. We’ll be sure to post pictures later and tell you of our adventures this evening! Ta, ta!

“I do love country dancing!”

Working the Land

April 1st, 2008

“Extra! Extra! Read all about it! The Willi have worked their land for the very first time this week! They arrived in the early afternoon one day prepared to spend the day staking out the driveway and house, and clearing away dangerous thorny brier patches. And they did!!

We’ve got to hand it to these folks. They’re quite the optimistic bunch, hard working, and very determined to make this piece of cow pasture into a home. By chance I overheard them discussing plans for future gardens (I say gardens, for there shall be several!), and among their highest possibilities was a trellis garden! Imagine that! A trellis garden up on a hill. Brilliant!

The photographs below depict the Willis family as they work together, ripping and clawing away at thorny thorns, tearing their clothes in order to clear away one brier patch. They acquired quite a few scratches and scars on their arms and legs as a result of their labor, but I later heard from their own lips that it was fun and well worth the effort. They had tried to set fire to their piles of brush, but apparently the winds were too strong…”

I’m in a rather corny mood today, in case you haven’t noticed! :-) But “Kitty Burns” is quite right; we did work our land for the first time, we do intend to build a trellis garden, and although we did acquire a few scratches as the result of our labor, we accomplished a lot and had fun together! She didn’t mention, however, that the main reason we were at our property in the first place was because we had to stake out approximately where our house should sit. (hence the measuring tapes, stakes, hammers and bright orange ribbons we brought with us.) We figured that as long as we were there, we might as well begin clearing some thorns! Take a look:

We actually traveled to Tennessee twice last week, both times to attend to some small matters of business that left us with a few extra hours in the afternoon. And can you make a guess at how we spent those few hours? Yep! We worked the land for again, and this time we had fire!

Our camping buddies may well remember my Dad’s love and knack for campfires – we’ve enjoyed many a large bonfire in the past, haven’t we! But it was actually Nate who first set fire to a pile of brush, though Walter insists it was by stroke of luck in the timing of the wind. :-) Check out our pictures for the day!

Have a great day y’all!
