Colonial Costume

July 4th, 2008

Hello folks! Happy Independence Day!

I thought I share with you what I’ve been doing in my spare time (besides picking blackberries;-))

I call it an “everyday colonial dress”.

It wasn’t at all planned on my sewing schedule. It wasn’t even extensively labeled and packed with appropriate trims and notions, like my other future projects. I just discovered some colonial-looking striped fabric while sorting through our bins last month. A large sky blue piece (also from a fabric bin) made a perfect match. :-)

I still have to hem the sleeves and bottom, sew a hook or two, and somehow resew the zipper so it doesn’t bulge and wrinkle. But it shant be long before it proudly hangs in the costume closet. :-D

Here there be comments...

Angie that is amazing! Did you design that pattern? I can’t wait to see pictures of you in it!

Kasie let me borrow her pattern Simplicity # 3723 for the bodice. What we didn’t realize was that the pattern sizes were far to large! So I just used it for basic layout, and then changed a lot of things along the way.

So I didn’t exactly design the pattern all by myself… ;-)

Smashing job Angie, as always. Pretty. I am eager to hear that you burned down the barley fields with fireworks now that you have been liberated from New York’s oppression of self expression. We did some expressing ourselves in a valient attempt to outdo our neighbor and his professional firework display. This thing is a monster, let me tell you, and we get front row seats on our back porch. He had little screaming white ones this year that I haven’t seen before. They were however, put to shame at around 11:00 by ourselves, bellowing spur of the moment patriotic compositions such as “TheBillofRightsandOurPresidentiallySpeakingofmyCountryStarsandStripeswithGodBlessAmericanaLibertyBellsAmen”, and waving and hurling sparklers into the air. It was majestic. Here’s to good old American self expression.

It screams “Martha Washington” to me.

232 Independence days ago, there was the first one. And look how we’ve gone since then.

Then again, Newton’s law of gravity effects almost anything.

I’m so *very* patriotic this year, aren’t I?

    Not really.

Gravity makes bomb go down and triggers their explosive mechanisms. Enemies exit stage left.

    ~>But I get what you’re a sayin’.
