A New Arrival
“Doctor, why are you late?”
“I had to handle a delivery.”
(joyously) “Oh! Is it a boy or a girl?”
“No actually it’s my new Steinway grand piano; they only deliver in between 3 and 5 o’clock, so… But enough with the chit chat…”
-an excerpt from one of Jordan’s movies, “The Young and Restless Days of All My Children’s Lives”
No folks, our new arrival is not a new Steinway grand piano, neither is it a baby boy or a girl.
Can you guess what it is? (no scrolling down just yet! guess first, peak afterward)
It’s…
…A…
NEW CAR!!!
-well, a 2004 used car is pretty new to us!
Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the Willi’s newest arrival, the classy looking, handy dandy, cute little Dodge Neon!
After our Willie, aka Candycane, left us last year we knew that (although we could never find a replacement for him – dear Willie!) in the near future we would need another vehicle. And for the past 8 months or so, we’ve lived with our one faithful mini van, Homer, our Honda Odyssey (pun intended). However, now that we’re somewhat settled here in Tennessee and Dad has a steady job, we knew it was time to welcome a new vehicle into the family.
“So what will you guys name your new car?” I hear our readers asking,
Well…that isn’t exactly settled just yet. As you can see from the pictures, the Dodge is a dark, steely grey, so I thought of dubbing it a boy and calling it “Remmington.” (if any of you have heard of the old T.V. show Remmington Steele you’ll see my line of thinking) But Dad on the other hand, likes the idea of dubbing it a girl and naming it after the beautiful tree that blooms around the time we bought it, “Magnolia,” using “Maggie” for short.
So all-in-all, we’re still undecided. Remmington and Maggie are two, completely different names (not to mention genders), but they’re both nice; I wonder which one we’ll end up calling it!
What do our readers think? Do you like Maggie or Remmington best? Do you have any new suggestions for the name of our car? We have owned it for two and a half weeks now, and I believe he’s/she’s feeling a bit left out of when referred to as “the Dodge,” or simply “it.”
~me and our new car, chilling together:-)

Why not ‘The Steele Magnolia’?? I’ve not seen the movie with a similar name, so I don’t know if this would be inappropriate – but it does give you the best of both *smile*.
Blessings and Congrats -
Camille
Hmm. I like Remmington. Or Slick. The car seems lilke it should be called Slick. Because it is.
But Remmington is the better name for him.
Hmmm…I believe that I prefer Remmington…but then again, Reginald isn’t bad either
Or Lafayette.
Or Brunswick.
I like Regency sounding names
I like Maggie!
I have to echo Camille on this one — brilliant hybrid names such as Remminolia, Maggie Steel, or even Magnolington immediately leapt to mind when I heard about the car. You get the best of both worlds without paying a dime extra. However, you do have a little gender blur there, which may lead him/her/it/ourspecialmisunderstoodfriend to grow confused in later years. As a he, he would be suave, no doubt about it. Being the matrimonial kind of guy I am, though, I have to say I lean in the feminine direction. For Homer’s sake. It is not good for van to be alone. And can you imagine how nice it would be if they got together and produced a whole litter of bicycles? A little ride in the country, anyone?
A girl and her car… it’s a beautiful thing. Check out the chrome hubcaps, baby… youch. For a name, I suggest “Steve”.
I like Camille and Tim’s (aka Mr. Darcy) idea of combining the two names; a sort of compromise. My prediction though is that it will end up as a girl. It kind of looks like one you know…but if you use your imagination (which you have to in order to name your cars in the first place!), it kind of looks like a boy too.
I know you like the Regency names Em! And it is indeed ‘slick’ Justin. (Look at all those nice lines!) Notice the little ‘tail’ in the back showed in the second picture… gives it sort of a sporty look, don’t you think?
Steve… There’s a good, solid name. And if we change our minds in between and make it a girl, her name can be Stephanie!
If you want a composite male name…
a REALLY male, tough-guy transformers style name for the car that uses both Steele and Magnolia….
MAGNA STEELE!!!
heh heh heh heh…
Or Magno Steele.
Can anyone say that Rodimus Prime is beaten by a mile???
Yes he is.
I say remmington, not that any of the other names are except, well, mabye magno steele.haha
Steve, Steve, Steve. No reason in particular, it just goes. Corporate, unassuming, slick. Steve.
Ha! You said it yourself. Slick.
Yes, well at least Steve isn’t nearly so bad as something like Bob or worse, Jim Bob! Steve is a good name
I think Dad’s at least decided that the Dodge is Maggie. It’s his car after all (I’ve actually never been inside before!), and he really likes it that way, and what Dad says goes, so… I guess she’s Maggie!
Maggie…Maggie…I need to get the word Magpie out of my head, which is usually what I think of when I hear that name.
ha ha love the pics of you chilling on the car lol any who i dont like naming cars at all it is a thing! but i like remmington best
Maggie, eh?
I was going to vote for “Remmington.”
