Happenings

October 25th, 2008

I love happenings! Though it is often hard to be up on blogging them all, because there are so many. It seems that soon after we truly settled at Providence Glen, our once empty calender rapidly developed into highly-penciled days and weeks. Poor un-socialized home schoolers that we are…;-)

We’ve been able to visit Virginia two weekends this month. Before the birthday bonanza, we took a trip up to watch our nieces and nephews, and we also visited friends from the VA ball. They had persuaded us to go to a late night showing of Fireproof. The movie was well worth the five hours of sleep we got that night!

Before the reenactment came around, my free time consisted of sewing the boys’ vests, cravats, and trousers. I was so thankful I didn’t have to make myself a whole other costume. We were really blessed to find accessories like hats and shoes at our local thrift stores.

And we’ve been working on our CD. The album recordings are scheduled in the next month, so in the meantime we are working out arrangements and revising our songs if need be. We are planning to play for the folk at Wellington Place every other week or so. We pray that they will be touched and uplifted by our music.

A happening that I am excited about, is my debut next week reenacting as a slave girl in the Williams-Dickson mansion.  This opportunity is such an unexpected blessing that still blows my mind! A girl from church had recommended me to the mansion’s educational director. He need an African American girl my age to reenact for school field trips at the mansion. With my parents’ full blessing, I took the job, and began memorizing the script of “Milly”‘s story right away.

Pictures of the mansion and my outfit coming next week!

I shall end this post with these verses from Psalm 37:3-5.

“Trust in the Lord, and do good, so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.”
