Civil War Dancing…Blindfolded?

September 10th, 2009

We’re a crazy group of people, but that’s what we did! :-D

In attempt to teach the gentlemen in our Civil War society how to properly “lead” the ladies while dancing, Angie came up with the brilliant idea of blindfolding all the girls! It was very amusing to watch, I’m sure, and forced all the guys to give firm hands/arms to their partners and direct them about.

I was dancing most of the time, but a friend was kind enough to snap these pictures with our camera for us! I thought you might enjoy.

[Note: this is not what we do when dancing at reenactments and balls. this is for practice purposes only!:-D

I certainly hope the blindfolds played their part in perfecting our dancing skills, but personally I was glad when they came off and I could see where I was going! We ended our practice with some of our favorite dances, Gothic Dance, Virginia Reel, and the Snowball Reel.

Have a great day!

    Yeah, even I (who have never been to a ball) know that the guy’s arms have to be stiff or else! Good idea!

    Hey! great idea! Our young men could use some lessons too – only we have to figure out some way to get them to even take the lessons! ha ha

    Looks like it was a fun night, ya’ll!

    @Dischers
    Ha! Well we’re very blessed with young men who love dancing, and just as involved with the period clothes and historical accuracy as us girls! Dancing is no fun unless the dancers are willing and eager. :-)

    I don’t know how Nigeria could have lost. Could that have been quicker. I just assumed that they had a great chance to do well in this years world cup. Maybe next time. Maybe its time to jump on the Argentina bandwagon. Looks like Demichelis has already scored. Go Argentina. To cheer me up from that devastating loss by Nigeria, I have been listening to some funny jokes.. This is one of the funnier ones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3j7uSbccSc
