~Go find some and pick it  – it grows wild! (never pick on the roadside)

~Store in a glass, air-tight container, and use all throughout the winter!

Just one of the many herbs I’ve been studying. :-) You can infuse red clover and make a cough syrup, use red clover in salves and teas. Look it up! It’s amazing what what medicinal properties a common plant like red clover can have!

Tim Hawkins!

October 26th, 2009

Our family – mostly us kids, especially Nate and I – have been fans of Christian comedian, Tim Hawkins, for a few years now. We’ve seen his videos on YouTube or Tangle, Nate and I recite many of his famous routines to each other and our friends – we’ve got them memorized! Last weekend, we had the chance to go see him LIVE!

It was everything I hoped it would be! Tim Hawkins entertained us for an hour and forty-five minutes with his hilarious routines, jokes, and songs with goofy lyrics. My mouth formed a consistent smile, if not a laugh, all the way through – we had a splendid time!

After the show was over, we waited in line to get his autograph, and we all made sure to ask for his “favorite Bible verse”! (see this video)

Here’s my ticket:

Work Day!

We had the opportunity last weekend to help out a loving family from church by giving their house a deep cleaning/sanitizing and building a fence in their backyard. We had a great crew of people over there, and together made the work go quicker and had fun. :-) What a wonderful thing it is to serve!

If you think of it, please pray for “Todd” and his family – he’s been battling cancer this past year. Pray for healing, and for God’s peace to be on his wife, children, and their home.

Of Birthday Festivities #2

October 20th, 2009

Last week must’ve been the week for celebrating 16th birthdays, for in addition to Josiah’s party, we threw one for our new and dear friend, Ashlee, on Friday. This time, it was to be a surprise!

…well, “semi-surprise” is better put. We kept it a secret successfully until twelve hours prior when Ashlee put together many clues and curious details. She figured we were going to surprise her, but she didn’t know when, until we came knocking on her door practically!

Ah! We had such great fun together, as always. Among our festivities planned for the day, we had an airsoft battle! (that’s almost getting to be routine around here!) Ashlee and I had a little surprise of our own to add to that, which you’ll see in the pictures.

You know an airsoft battle has gone well when the all girls don’t mind playing again! We didn’t actually have time for that though, for next up for our birthday activities was to have a barn dance!

Angie and I are delighted to discover that Ashlee’s family has a wonderful barn for dancing in. We came prepared with music and dance instructions, taught a few new sets and danced away! It was very cold for a Fall day, but as any of our readers who have done vintage dancing before know, the dancing keeps you plenty warm. :-)

After a pizza dinner, it was our plan to go to the corn maze in the dark, but here the weather prevented us; it was pouring rain outside, as well as being quite cold. We’ll have to reschedule. But here’s a picture of us all before departing!

Half of us returned to Ashlee’s house and finished off the party with some music, and an energetic game of “spoons”.  Ashlee said it was probably the best birthday party she’s ever had! It was awesome. Even if the surprise wasn’t a complete surprise, it was great fun!

Happy Birthday Ashlee!

I wish we had a picture of his adorable ear-to-ear grin! James is such a special little man, and so easy to please. Aunt Angie misses him very much and is looking forward to seeing him again sometime :-) .

Of Birthday Festivities #1

October 17th, 2009

This Sunday we had the neatest time celebrating the 16th birthday of our dear friend, Josiah. His real birthday was actually four months ago, but we had to postpone several times due to sickness, and dates that wouldn’t work out with those he wanted to invite. It wasn’t until this past Sunday we were finally able to get together and have the party! I have to say though, it was worth the wait, ’cause we had an absolute blast!

I thought I had the record for the longest birthday party in history (it lasted 8 hours!), but now Josiah has set a new record of 9 hours! (what can I say? we’re a people who love to party :-P ) We really did have a wonderful time! We played games like Cranium, Apples to Apples, jumping into piles of hay, airtsoft battles in the night, hide-in-seek tag, Mr. President, telephone, and hand uno. All the while talking, laughing, playing jokes on each other and taking pictures. :-)

Happy Birthday and four months, Josiah! :-) Thanks for having a wonderful party!

Pippin

October 15th, 2009

We lost another one of our cats two days ago, our little buddy, Pippin. Nate and I found him lifeless on the grass in our backyard Tuesday morning (he was only a few feet away from where we found Faramir!) – I knew something was up when he didn’t come immediately to eat his breakfast. The worst part is, we don’t know what happened! He was perfectly healthy, big and fast enough to be let outside at night, and there were no bite or scratch marks or blood to be seen on his body – whatever killed Pippin left him whole. All we know is that he died during the night, since rigor mortis had already set in.

We buried him across the creek, next to Faramir’s grave.

Dear Pippin! What a loss! He was my favorite. He was the most affectionate of our three cats, always following me around, and, like his namesake from Lord of the Rings, was often found getting into some small mischief. :-) Poor Merry. You can tell he’s lonesome for his brother. He and Boromir have to console one another now in each other’s loss.

Dance Demonstrations

October 13th, 2009

Our newly born 1860′s civilian society had their first dance demonstration last weekend! There’s a 100-year-old farm outside of town apparently filled with Civil War history, and they’re trying to get their name out there. We were asked to be apart of their Fall Festival and give a few dance demonstrations! Various members of our society were scheduled to reenact for different days of the Festival – we picked Saturday, and with the help of a few friends, demonstrated 5 period correct dances! . :-)
