Pippin

October 15th, 2009

We lost another one of our cats two days ago, our little buddy, Pippin. Nate and I found him lifeless on the grass in our backyard Tuesday morning (he was only a few feet away from where we found Faramir!) – I knew something was up when he didn’t come immediately to eat his breakfast. The worst part is, we don’t know what happened! He was perfectly healthy, big and fast enough to be let outside at night, and there were no bite or scratch marks or blood to be seen on his body – whatever killed Pippin left him whole. All we know is that he died during the night, since rigor mortis had already set in.

We buried him across the creek, next to Faramir’s grave.

Dear Pippin! What a loss! He was my favorite. He was the most affectionate of our three cats, always following me around, and, like his namesake from Lord of the Rings, was often found getting into some small mischief. :-) Poor Merry. You can tell he’s lonesome for his brother. He and Boromir have to console one another now in each other’s loss.

    Pets are such beautiful gifts, and we miss them so much when we have to say goodbye.

    Dear Kasie and all,
    I am a kitty-lover too. How sad to hear about these tragic deaths…and how strange! The only think I can think of is a Cyote or another large animal who can over power with one ‘whack’ and leave no other damages. Have you considered consulting a local vet? Sure would be nice to know so you can have some kind of understanding.

    Thanks all for your sympathy. We all miss him!

    @Sheila
    We’re probably going to get a gun and one of these days camp out on the deck or family room (with the windows open) and keep watch at night. If we see a varmint, well then, we shoot. I know that sounds so redneck, but I guess that’s just how things go in the country. :-)

Throw in your 2 cents. Or 10. Actually, we'll take as much as you give us.
