Outer Banks #7: Family Faces

October 12th, 2009

The best part of our vacation on the Outer Banks was, of course, being reunited with family, doing everything together (you should have seen our dinner time!). It was everything we wished for! I think each of us came home with priceless memories we’ll keep with us for a long time. The plan is to have another reunion in three years, then after that every four years (to put ourselves on an Olympic schedule :-) ). I wonder if we’ll be going to the beach for our next one? Time to start planning!

These are some of my favorite pictures of family members during our wonderful week together. And yes, this is most likely the last post in our Outer Banks series, so enjoy!

Thanks, guys, for such an awesome time! Love you!

Outer Banks #6: Canoe Views

October 10th, 2009

Since the ocean looked a little rough for canoing (but apparently not for some people!) we turned to a different water trip more suited to our canoes, Milltail Creek into Alligator River. It was a gorgeous day, and the water was amazing! I described it to Walter as “clear, black tea”, and he agreed. It made for beautiful reflections!

See what I mean?

“Only one way to go now – forward.”

We have reached the Alligator River!

We stayed only for a little while, then turned around to head back.

Look Alikes?

October 8th, 2009

My sister, myself, my niece. Everyone in our family declares the three of us look very similar. What do you think? Do you see the family resemblance?

Outer Banks #5: Kitty Hawk

October 8th, 2009

One of the activities we did during our family reunion in the Outer Banks was to go visit the sight of America’s first flight, Kitty Hawk! Actually when I said “we”, it was really only half true, since only Mom, Dad and Walter went. I was coming down with a fever,  and Nate and Angie wanted to hang out with everybody else at the beach house. So if you’re wondering why we’re not in the pictures, that’s why! If I’m ever near Kitty Hawk again and I’m not sick, I’d love to go visit it too someday. I do love history!

Looks like Mom, Dad and Walter had fun though. You know the routine – here are the pictures!

Imagine what life would be like now without airplanes! Hats off to you, Wilbur and Orville!

Just a Couple of Pics

October 6th, 2009

For your information, no, I’m not done recording our family reunion. I still have more pictures! :-) I’m just taking a small break, spending time with family and friends, and working on things that need to be done at home.

In the meantime, however, I wanted to post these two pictures from recent happenings;

~Em, Angie and I hanging out with my nieces (and nephews, but they didn’t make it in the picture).

~Evan and Nate, thumping away on the bass while us ladies diligently sewed pieces to our Civil War wardrobe (it is Tuesday after all!) Two basses together rock! You guys sounded good.

:-)

More pictures are  coming. Have a nice evening, y’all!

Outer Banks #4: T-Shirts and Family Portraits

October 1st, 2009

It was Joy’s Sharon’s idea to surprise Mom with family reunion t-shirts. Over the past months we’d emailed each other sizes, designs, and pictures. What she came up with was perfect, and Mom came into the living room one evening to find us all passing out and wearing our appointed t-shirts! Surprise complete!

Of course, we wanted a family portrait, so we headed out to the beach one morning for the photo shoot. (these pictures are “pre-photoshoot”. for the real family portraits, scroll down).

And now for the official family portraits…

familyportrait

You wouldn’t believe how long it took to get everybody looking and smiling at once (especially with a timer camera and no photographer), but this was my favorite one. Don’t we look great? :-)

sillyportrait

We always do a silly picture too. It’s tradition! This one is my favorite also.

Then we did separate family portraits…

I love Abby’s expression in that one!

Aww!

And our famlily portrait. I can see this on a Christmas card…
